While watching Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani I fell in love with the magnificent palaces, beautiful lakes and breathtaking views and then I got to know that half of the shooting was done in Udaipur. This city of Lakes and Palaces has a lot to offer to people of all age groups. It is also one of the most romantic places in India and no wonder many people prefer it as the topmost for Destination Wedding! The city is also rich in culture, history and traditions. This city will definitely leave you spellbound. Whereas, the best time to visit the city is during Winters. You can visit from September to March.

Best Places to Visit

1. City Palace

City Palace is over Lake Pichola. It has a number of features that attract tourists across the globe. The architecture is outstanding and there are few structures that leave the visitors awestruck. The palace gives a wonderful view of the whole city. It was built in the fusion of Rajasthani and Mughal architectural style. The crystal gallery, Daawat-i-Aam, Daawat-i-Khaas, Maharani Palace and Lake Pichola are the major attractions. One must visit this place if you’re planning to visit Udaipur. The timings to visit the palace are 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

2. Lake Pichola and Lake Palace

The Lake Pichola and Lake Palace should be a MUST visit on your list. Lake Palace is now a hotel but was earlier known as Jagniwas. The walls are made up of black and white marbles, semi-precious stones and ornamented niches. Even if one cannot afford to stay there you can still visit this palace and witness the royal beauty. Whereas, Lake Pichola is the identity of Udaipur. It is a 4 kms long man-made lake and you can also have a boat ride here. At the end of the lake, there are two islands-Jagniwas and Jagmandir. At one end you will find The Lake Palace and at the other end, there is Jag Mandir Palace.

3. Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum

A great place to visit. It showcases the Rajasthani Culture, situated in Chetak Circle. It showcases the royal era of Udaipur. The museum has an amazing compilation of Rajasthani attires, ornaments, turbans, dolls, masks, musical instruments, canvas and puppets. The timings to visit are 9 AM-7PM.

Apart from all these places you can also visit Jagdish Temple, Bagore ki Haveli, Lake Fatehsagar, Saheliyon ki Bari, Ahar, Ambrai Ghar and Monsoon Palace

How to Reach Udaipur-

By Air- The nearest airport to the city is Mahara Pratap Airport which is situated 20 kms away from the city.

By Road- There are buses from Delhi, Kota, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Indore and Mumbai. These deluxe buses are air-conditioned

By Train- Rail Networks are from Delhi, Kolkata, Indore, Mumbai and Kota. Some of the popular trains are Mewar Express, Chetak Express and the luxurious Palace of Wheels.
